I worked with Mervin in 2004-5 and we have talked since then at least once a year. I just stumbled across this today (Jan, 10/17) and was stunned...he was only three years older than me!

My deepest condolences to the Istace family. I had the honor of knowing Merv, as he wished to be called. He was always a constant star in the positive of life and living it to the fullest. I am proud to have known him, called him my friend. He will be missed but his lust for life will never be far from his children nor anyone he touched with his infectious smile.

I'm most saddened and shocked to hear of Mervins passing. My deepest condolences are being sent across the country from British Columbia to his family. Memories of milkshakes, the colour purple, sunsets and country roads will live on in my heart forever. Rest in Peace my Friend.

I had the opportunity, and privilege, to work with Mervin the past 5 years. He was always so positive and easy to talk to and work with. He had many stories to share and a lot of wisdom. He was my 'go to' person when I had a question or needed information. He talked a lot about Braxton and was very proud of his son. He will be missed. My condolences go out to the family.

My deepest sympathy to Braxton and Merv's family. He was well respected at the Provincial Library. I remember lots of conversations about music and movies. Cate Blanchette was his favourite. His sunny disposition will be missed!

Merv was such a positive and optimistic person and always brought a smile to my face with his comments and posts on my Facebook page. He always seemed to know exactly what to say when I was dealing with negativity in my life and when I felt bad about myself. I will be unable to attend his Service of Remembrance but I will be thinking about him and his family. It's so hard to understand why God would take someone like Merv when he was such an inspiration to everyone and I'm sending huge hugs to all of his friends and family at this most difficult time. RIP Merv❤️ I will never forget you😢

Mervin and I first met some 20 years ago while working at Environment. Over the years our paths crossed and like good friends we picked up right where we left off when ever we met. I had the pleasure of working closely with Merv the past 4 years and we shared our passion for cars each time we connected and there was also a bit of bantering. Mervin was an amazing person and always willing to help or just talk over life's challenges. Braxton and family, my sincere condolences to you. Shelley

I have known Merv since moving back to Regina in 2003 when I joined the Provincial Library family. We have remained friends ever since and I will miss him dearly. He was kind-hearted and caring and was always willing to help out. I can't believe he is gone this soon. Aside from the colour purple and BMW's, I knew that Mervin was passionate about his family, especially Braxton. Over the years, I have heard many a story about his parents, siblings and nieces and nephews. He was most proud of his son Braxton and shared that with me. I am privileged to have known him.

From the time we first met Merv at the regular Thursday "BIG" (beer is good) meetings, we both knew we'd met someone special.

Merv was such a kind and generous man. Had great knowledge and interesting perspectives on life. He always made us smile and always had time for us. His love of BMWs didn't go unnoticed.

The world lost a great man on Friday. Our hearts and prayers go out to Braxton and all of his family. I've never known anyone like him and never will again.
