"Uncle" Harald S. Sundberg

“Uncle” Harald S. Sundberg, late of Stoughton, SK passed away on March 5, 2026 at the age of 92 years.

Harald was the last surviving member of his family.

He is predeceased by his parents, Franz and Hedvig Sundberg; sister, Cecile (Oliver) Kiland; sister, Ruth (Bert) MacDonald; sister, June (Harold) Gordon; his brother, Clifford Sundberg (in infancy); nephews, Toby and Al Kiland; and his niece, Nellie Slessor.

Harald is survived by his nephew, Lyle (Bev) Gordon and family, Craig (Melissa) [Kade, Cole, Kit], Nevin (Sheena) [Bridgette, Claire, Alana]; Helene (Noel) Valcourt, David (Joanne) MacDonald, Angus MacDonald, Jeanette (Ken) Silver, Linda MacDonald, Garry (Chris) MacDonald, Buck (Betty) Slessor; as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Harald was the last of a generation of cousins both in Canada and Sweden.  He was born February 6, 1934 at the homestead north of Lintlaw, SK.  He left school at a young age to work and farm at home as well.  He cared for his parents and when his mother needed more help they moved to Stoughton with June and Lyle. 

Uncle loved farming and continued to cart grain when he was 88. He loved gardening, sowing 1500 hills of potatoes and vegetables.  He canned fruit, tomatoes, made pickles and cooked his own meals until he went to the lodge in March of 2025.

His sense of humor and love of family never diminished even in the last months of his life.  When his health failed and he became dependent on his “sweethearts” at New Hope Pioneer Lodge, he never complained and was so grateful for them all.  They truly are angles and words of thanks will never be enough to express our gratitude for the care he and our family received from each and every one of them.  He left us with a lifetime of memories to cherish.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Harald’s Life will be held in the summer of 2026.
