Theresa Giroux Obituary

It is with deep sorrow, that the family of Terry Giroux (Nee Farand) announces her peaceful passing at the age of 90 years at Weyburn, SK.

Terry was born November 5, 1932 in Riverside (Radville) SK, the daughter of Richard and Elise (nee: Dionne) Farand.

She was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband of 53 years, Jim; her siblings: Madeleine (Albert) Bourassa, Arthur (Evelyn), Annette (Anatole) Bourassa, Adrian (Anne), Rene (Shirley), Agnes (Chuck) Edwards, Richard, Leo, Beatrice Anton; other family and in-laws.

Terry will be lovingly remembered by her son, Randy and his children: Blair (Dori), Krystal (Chris), Thayne (Maegan); her daughter, Denise (Clifford) Trachsel and their children, Kevin (Cristina), Stacey (John); her son, Keith (Denise) and their children: Jaye (Meghan), Kyron (Jade), Tara (Kody), Heather; her great-grandchildren: Kylee, Zander, Ellie, Denzel, Ahvery, Emryn, Taylor and Jacob; her brothers, Lawrence (Evelyn) and Vic; her sister Cecile Eisler; as well as many other family, in-laws and family.

Terry grew up in “Frenchtown” in Radville, SK. She often said that she was “right in the middle” of their close knit family of 13 children.  They spoke French as well as English.  She recalled the chores at home, such as hauling buckets of water, despite her small size.  There were fun times as well, such as skating and playing ball, where she was the catcher.  With that many kids in a family there was no lack of friends to hang out with.

After her grade 12, due to a shortage of teachers in the province, she taught a few students in a one room schoolhouse, as a ‘Supervisor’ for one school year.  She then had jobs in Weyburn in Warren’s Drug Store and for a law firm where she used her skills of typing, shorthand and bookkeeping.

She married Jim in 1953 and they eventually moved to the farm south of Weyburn, where she lived until this last year.  They raised their 3 children there.  They tended to crops, cattle, other farm animals and large gardens.  Terry was a hard worker and she took on numerous tasks in supporting the farm.  She also used her talents in cooking, sewing, quilting, crafting, etc.

Despite her phobias of flying, of going into mountains, and of deep water, she faced most obstacles head on, including the ups and downs of farm life.  She had an inner strength and determination.  She suffered the losses of so many loved ones, she endured burns and several surgeries over time.  She did this with all of the grace, humour, wit and fun that was an innate part of her.

She was a very caring, generous soul who continually put others before herself.  She always inquired as to how others were doing and did many deeds for so many people. All of her large family was especially important to her and she dedicated herself fully to all loved ones.

Until the end of her 90 plus years, Terry loved being with people, having some fun and laughter.  When she could, she enjoyed getting out of the house for coffee with friends and being a member of various organizations over the years, volunteering, socializing and practicing her faith.

Terry was one of the best, loving devoted Moms and she shone with her Grand and Great-Grandkids. She will be sorely missed by all, but she is now at rest. We are grateful for the wonderful memories that she left with us.

Mom…Grammer…your work is now done, thank you.  You will be in our hearts and minds as we love you forever.
