It is with great sadness, the family of Stanley Syrnick announces his peaceful passing on January 18, 2021 at the age of 81 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Matt and Pearl; brothers: Michael, Ernie, Henry (Valeria); sisters, Phyllis (Al) and Francis (Brian).
Stan is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Irene; his sons Kevin and Trevor (Greg); his cherished grandchildren, Nathan and Lucy (mother Kim); 2 sisters, Alice (Peter) and Helen (Orest). He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Stan was born in Gilbert Plains, MB on April 26, 1939 and graduated from Bickford High School. He worked various jobs and eventually became a Beaver Lumber truck driver in August 1959. He worked different locations: Dauphin, Gilbert Plains, Swan River. While working in smaller lumber yards, he met his wife Irene in Dauphin, who was attending Little’s Business College in 1960.
His first managerial position was in Glenboro in 1962. Very small but busy and educational. In July 1963, Stan and Irene married and a month later were transferred to Thompson, MB, for 11 years with Beaver Lumber. They had 2 sons, Kevin and Trevor. Than Stan decided he wanted a lumber business of his own so he researched and settled on the Chimo Building in Weyburn in 1974. It was a “Mom and Pop” business, “Stanlee Lumber Ltd.,” that Stan and Irene worked very hard together to make a 22 year success story.
Working with a buying group of “Timber Marts” they were able to travel to annual meetings and conventions worldwide, the Hawaiian Islands being their favorite. It was a good business with long hours, hard work but always fun. They profitably sold the business in 2002 with Stan staying on for 2 years of transition retiring in July 2004 in Weyburn.
Stan was an active leader in his community; president of the church board for 30 years and a member of the “Knights of Columbus.” He always worked hard to improve his community for all.
