Shirley Hanson Obituary

Shirley Pearl Hanson was born on February 18, 1939 in Ceylon, SK to Clarence and Pearl Harrison.  She left this world peacefully on December 26, 2024 at the wonderful age of 85, with her family by her side.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Albert of 68 years; her children:  Roger (Pat) Hanson of Hardy, SK, Don (Nancy) Hanson of Olds, AB,  Janet (Marvin) Holmes of Minton, SK, Wendy (Kelvin) Schopf of Bengough, SK and Duane (Tracy) Hanson of Strasbourg, SK; her beloved grandchildren: Blair (Melissa), Kristy, Ryan (Megan), Tara (Jody), Jenny (Herson), Nolan (Tara), Donalda (Alan), Brandy (Brody), Kayla, Colin, Marcy and Chris; great grandchildren: Sloan, Harper, Damien, Chase, Miranda, Ella, Hannah, Braxton, Rhett, Hayes, Corbin, Emma, Dakota, Riley, Morgan, Logan, Emerson, Caleb, Cody and Cheyanne; great-great grandchildren, Lyla and Mya; her sisters, Gloria (Wayne) Fister, June Alderson; sister-in-law Ruth Nergard (Evan); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Shirley was born at home on the family farm in the Ceylon area where she attended school at Meadow View school and then Ceylon where she received her grade 9 education. Shirley met the love of her life at the Bengough agricultural days.  They were married on March 9, 1956.  After getting married they lived with Shirley’s parents until Albert started working on the railroad.

Albert’s job took them to many beautiful communities.  They moved around a lot in this time period not calling any place home for very long. In 1956 they started their family by welcoming their first born son Roger, and then their daughter Jennette in 1957 who passed shortly after birth, son Donnie in 1958, daughter Janet in 1962 and daughter Wendy in 1964.

In 1963, Albert took a job at the jet ranch in theMinton, SK area.  Albert and Shirley worked and raised their family here for five years before purchasing the farm from Shirley’s parents.  Here they welcomed their son Duane in 1970.  They both worked extremely hard to build the ranch into a successful cattle and grain operation. They worked side by side, building their cattle herd to over 100 head and many horses. You would find Shirley in the barns, working cattle and horses, driving a combine, tractor or any other equipment she could.  Her love of animals, especially her Holstein cows and little goats brought her a lot of joy. They lived on the farm for 33 years, where they expanded by adding 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren who she loved dearly.

After some health issues, they decided it was time to slow down and retire.  They bought a small acreage in March of 2003, where they were able to keep a couple of animals, which both loved so much.  In November of 2023, they moved to Radville, SK where they lived until her passing.

Shirley will always be remembered for love of family, and how hard she worked to provide for all of us.  Until we meet again!
