Rita was born on May 31, 1933 on a farm between Ceylon and Hardy, Sk. to Andre and Gertrude Nimegeers. She was the 2nd eldest of a family of 13 children. The family moved to Ralph, SK in 1942. After schooling in Ralph and Weyburn, Rita completed her teaching education and soon began to live and teach at the Weyburn Plains School. It was in these years that she met Roy Sidloski and fell deeply in love. They were married on July 4, 1955 and began to build their family while Roy built the farm that would be their home. Rita’s life’s work was raising her family. She felt it was God’s reason for putting her on this Earth. She spent countless hours teaching music, helping with homework, cleaning, transporting and cooking for and with her 16 children; always with love, patience and faith. When the youngest was old enough for school, Rita, not content with taking on combining duties on the large family cattle and grain farming operation, applied herself to the retail business - working at The Bay and later Zellers in Weyburn. She was a valuable employee and took great pleasure in doing this job to her usual high standards; making many friends along the way. She spent her retirement on the farm, enjoying her growing family until Roy’s death in 2017. Though devastated, she carried on with faith and fortitude and was always there for her family; for a trip to the casino or Value Village, or to enjoy a Blue Jays game on TV.
Rita enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting and knitting, but loved cards, music and being a mother. We’ll all remember her at Sunday dinners, playing cards and out in her huge raspberry patch or gardens where she found some much deserved quiet time. She was the strongly positively charged nucleus of a large family and several generations of descendants and was always very present in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by everyone that knew her.
