Regina “Jean” Katherine Procknow, late of Weyburn, SK passed away June 23, 2023 at the age of 84 years.
She was predeceased by her parents Anton Selinger and Katherine Silzer; her loving husband of 39 years, George Procknow; the father of her children Leonard Vertefeuille; daughter-in-law Judy Vertefeuille; brother Phil Selinger; sister-in-law Clare Selinger; and brother-in-law Ron Horsnall.
Jean is lovingly remembered by her devoted children: Janice Senger (Ray), David Vertefeuille (Colleen Quinlan), Denise Black (Keith), Shelly Gorski (Don), Gary Vertefeuille (Karen Charles); step-children, Lynnette Caron (Marc Chartier) and Greg Procknow; along with 19 grandchildren and 23great-grandchildren; her siblings: Dorothy Horsnall, Betty-Ann Lebreche (Roger), Jerome Selinger (April), Judy Hollingshead (Terry), Grace Selinger (Gary Chayer); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
“Jeannie” was raised on a farm outside Odessa in a loving home with 6 siblings who were taught the values of family, service, hard work and resilience. After moving to Regina and attending business school, she married Leonard Vertefeuille. Managing a full-time job and raising 5 children was both rewarding and challenging. Camping, tobogganing and picnics are just some of our happiest memories. Life didn’t go as planned and after 19 years their marriage was annulled. Mom continued to be our “Super-Mom” and always will be.
Mom was lucky enough to find love again, marrying George and growing her family with step-children Lynn and Greg. She embraced the Weyburn community by volunteering, making new friends and being of service to her Catholic faith. A devoted CWL member for over 60 years and passionate about doing God’s work, Mom made countless contributions to her church and community; being especially proud that her voice and work influenced change at all levels.
Coffee with friends and spending time with family especially hosting celebrations, provided Mom the most joy. Gardening and her interest in horticulture also blossomed. Early mornings and getting her hands dirty filled her heart. From starting seedlings to judging competitions, George and Mom spent immeasurable hours together in the garden. Later, they enjoyed being snowbirds – heading south to Yuma, AZ to spend many wonderful times with friends and family.
Her unwavering faith in God was with her until the moment she passed.
