Morris Pollock Obituary

Morris (TORCHY) Martin Pollock died the morning of May 27, 2024 at the Fillmore Health Centre. He was born August 9, 1922 on a farm north of Fillmore, moving to what became Pollock Corner. His mother Mary (nee Young) immigrated from Sterling, Scotland and his father Samuel moved west from Ontario to homestead. They met and married. Dad was the last of their children. Dad and Mom, Hazel (nee Cross)   met in Fillmore and wed June 23, 1945 at the Cross farm near Griffin. Linda was born in 1947 and Vance in 1949.

Morris was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Mary Pollock; his wife Hazel (2004); sisters: Edna Taylor, Doreen Jensen; brothers: Murray, Roy, Ray and Eain Pollock.

Morris is survived by his daughter, Linda Sangster and her family, Scott (Holly) Sangster; his son, Vance (Dora) Pollock and their family, Wyatt (Tina) and family [Darcie, Kade], Wade (Hayley) and family [Josh, Jake, Ben, Rachel, Samuel], Jason (Jill) Zyla and family [Lochlan, Arlo, Finnlay], Mindy (Justin) Shippelt and family [Mia, Grayson], Jackie (Chris) Witherspoon and family [Madison, Morgan, Lincoln]; cousins: Darwin Pollock, Joan (Butch) Lubins as well as numerous nieces and nephews

Dad was a farmer until 1984 and an electrician apprentice with Frank Scarrow from 1953 to 1962 becoming a national Journeyman Electrician in 1962 after attending tech school in Saskatoon and Moose Jaw. He was part of electrifying rural Saskatchewan. Dad had many sport interests being a hockey player and baseball player then coaching minor league teams. For many years, he was a referee in hockey and an umpire for baseball. He was a diehard Maple Leaf and Rider fan. He was a golfer (last founding member of the Fillmore Golf Club) and curler, pool player and occasional card shark.

Dad wasn’t a joiner but was a very community minded person. He talked often about the great community effort to build the “new” rink. He left the farm and moved to Fillmore in 2007 and to the Fillmore Health Centre in 2014 where he received the very, very best care.
