Mildred Nimegeers Obituary

Mildred Phyllis Nimegeers, late of Weyburn, SK passed away on October 13, 2025 at the age of 89 years.

She was predeceased by her father, Fidelis (Bill) Gisi; mother, Katherine (Martin); twin siblings, Alphonse and Marian; brother, Alan Gisi; sister, Gert Murray; husband, Andre Jr.; her godchild, Douglas Ball; and brother-in-law, Timothy Ball.

Mildred is survived by her children: Marina and her children [Dallas, April, Amber Elder]; Michele (Joie) Mitten and her children [Brandon, Keziah, Autumn, Ivory]; Glen (Danielle) and children [Danique, Andrea, Joceyline, Madeline]; her sister Gert Murray’s children, Rich (Val), Kathy (Cal) Hogberg, Cindy (Nelson) and Erin Murray, Marty Ball and sons, David (Crystal) and Tim Jr. (Leann Tauda); brothers, Marvin (Gwen) Gisi and son David (Susanne) Gisi; David (Caroline) Gisi and children, Michael and Corrina; as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Millie was born in the Lampman Hospital on February 20, 1936, one of the coldest months on record.

The family moved many times.  Public school was taken at Hillside School, Estevan, High School in Tisdale, SK.

In 1955, she applied for the Psychiatric Nursing Program at the Saskatchewan Hospital in Weyburn, SK.  It was a career she loved and achieved much personal satisfaction.

In 1959 she accompanied a co-worker to Scotland and registered as a Registered Mental Nurse with the General Nursing Council of Scotland.  Although she loved the people and since her friend had already returned to Canada, she became increasingly homesick and by Christmas she returned home.  In 1962, she worked at the Ontario Hospital in Hamilton, but was soon to return home to marry Andre Jr. Nimegeers.

They had three children and grew to love life on the farm.  She learned to operate all farm machinery, even the swather.

Her grandchildren brought much joy to her life all born after her husband’s death in 1992.

She retired from nursing in 1997 after working 42 years in this field, mostly part-time.  She did volunteer work at her church and the Weyburn Senior Centre and much time spent on her crafts.  But mostly enjoyed the time spent with her 10 grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place.

For family and friends so wishing, charitable donations in memory of Mildred may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, #300 ~ 55 St. Claire Avenue West, Toronto, ON, M4V 2X7.
