Marlene Ida Rose Marin

Marlene Ida Rose Marin (nee Harrison) passed away on Sunday, August 7th, 2022 at Tatagwa View in Weyburn. Marlene was born on May 13, 1944 in Ceylon, Saskatchewan the eldest daughter of Elwin & Agnes Harrison of Hardy, Saskatchewan.

She was predeceased by her parents, Elwin and Agnes Harrison; brothers, George and Brian Harrison; her in-laws, Everett and Esther Marin; and her brother-in-law Brian Marin.

Marlene is survived by: her loving husband, Darald Marin; her daughters, Giselle (Barton) Daenckaert, Laura Lee (Jason) Petersen; grandchildren: Justin (Justyna), Kailey, Conlin, Elsa, and Korbyn; her great grandson Bradley; sister Karen (Jake) Loose; sisters-in-law: Jeannette Harrison, Sally Harrison, Janice (Bill) Riecken, Linda (Gerry) Schmidtheisler; brother in-law Garnet (Gisele) Marin; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, along with many friends.

Marlene grew up with her siblings on their farm near Hardy, Saskatchewan. The Harrison siblings loved to tell stories of their fun and frolicking adventures on the farm together. The four Harrison kids maintained their very tight bond through the years as they each raised their respective families. The laughter and fun that ensued the minute they gathered together was contagious and full of joy.

Marlene went to several country schools; Gordon, Meadowview, Hardy and then Ceylon High School.  After high school, Marlene went to Success Business College in Regina and started her career at the Bank of Canada in Regina and Calgary. In 1965, she accepted a position with the Credit Union in Radville.

Marlene and Darald married in October 1965. Radville has been their home ever since and where they raised two daughters; Giselle and Laura Lee. Marlene was a very active Mother and fully supported the girls interests and endeavors no matter where it took them or how many costumes she had to make or cupcakes she had to bake. Marlene created a home of welcome and acceptance. Her hospitality was second to none. It was within the walls of their home, that Marlene created a sanctuary not only for the family, but also for her daughter’s friends. The Marin house was the place for everyone to gather.

When she became a grandmother and great grandmother, this deep dedication to family continued. Right up until the end of her life, a visit from her ‘grands’ could bring a smile to her face and a light to her eye.

As well as her immediate family, she also willingly and lovingly stepped in to care for Darald’s siblings with the early passing of his mother. At a very young age, Marlene extended them the care and comfort of a mother that created a very deep bond with her in-laws.

Together, Marlene and Darald built a thriving agricultural business. Marlene’s tireless and exceptional ability to organize, cook, manage, and accommodate the great swath of tasks the farm and family required provided the very foundation for the business and building blocks for the family’s success. She must have hauled thousands of meals to the fields over the years and seeing her coming down the road around meal-time, made everyone smile.

And somehow, through all this, Marlene also spent many years working as an administrator with Roth Agencies and Robertson Investments in Radville.

Her generous nature and gentleness of spirit brought her many friendships over the course of her life and experiences. Through their shared adventures with the International Harvester clubs and shows they frequented and supported across North America, to the extensive travel itineraries they shared, to their winter home in Arizona, Marlene and Darald built friendships across the globe. Her natural ability to nurture and bring out the best in others, endeared Marlene to all who knew her.

Marlene became the rock for the families elderly members. Her Grandfather would stop for coffee with her on a daily basis. From her Uncle and Aunts to her parents and Father-in-law, Marlene provided care, support and managed their affairs with a never ending smile.

Marlene lived her life cloaked in faith. The Holy Catholic Church was a guiding light from a very early age. As a young choir member in Ceylon Parish, Marlene and a group of like-minded choir peers, were hand-picked to accompany Father Ripplinger and to travel with him to the mission churches each Sunday. So, each Sunday, Marlene and the rest of the choir would travel to several mission churches to sing. Father Ripplinger was a lifetime friend, officiating at Marlene and Darald’s wedding and becoming a foundation of faith throughout their life. Not only did Marlene and Darald welcome Father Ripplinger to officiate their wedding, two other priests joined him, making the nuptials a very rarely celebrated form of ‘high’ nuptials. When Marlene and Darald celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, they received an official decree signed by Pope Francis. The Church was the cornerstone of Marlene’s life and loves. She spent many years volunteering in various capacities in the church and in the community.

It was with a gentle hand and unwavering commitment that Marlene spread the light and love of the Lord through every corner of the world, and to every heart she touched. In life, she reminded her family many times, that in death, her soul would be free. She didn’t want them mourning over a grave because, as she said, I will not be there. In death, she fulfilled her earthly quest to enter her eternal home. Marlene was ready to start that journey when she passed.

One of the ways Marlene lived her life, was to always have hope and trust in the Lord’s path. This belief created a genuine sense of practical optimism that allowed her to positively propel herself forward in times of difficulty and to lead her family in making good faith-based decisions in their affairs. She was their North Star.

In the hope for the future she extolled and with the unwavering trust in the Lord she had, we will carry on. Knowing that she is now in her eternal home. One she spent her entire earthly life preparing for. We will carry on, celebrating her life, by honouring her example… spreading the light and love of the Lord through every corner of our worlds.

Prayers were held on Sunday, August 14, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. from Holy Family Parish Catholic Church, Radville, SK.  A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, August 15, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. from Holy Family Parish Roman Catholic Church, Radville, SK with celebrant Fr. Thuy Nguyen.  Honorary Pallbearers were Mae & John Pierce, Margaret & Joe Gilmore, Linda & Lyle Garrett, Sharon & Glenn Hibbard, Emile Carles and Carol & Ron Vermeulen. Active Pallbearers were all Marlene’s Grandchildren.  Interment was held at Laurier Cemetery, Radville, SK and luncheon followed at the Holy Family Parish Roman Catholic Church, Radville, SK.
