Magdalene was born at home on November 10, 1928 – so small, they kept her on the oven door to keep her warm. She was the fifth child and first daughter of Adam and Genevieve. Upon completing Grade 12, she worked in Weyburn as a telephone operator. She met the love of her life, Donald, at a community dance in Hume. They were married on October 18, 1952 and shortly after moved to a small house on the Pretty farm.
Magdalene was very active in the operation and success of the farm. She drove grain truck, baled, tended a large garden, kept the yard mowed, and the flower beds looking beautiful. She also made sure full meals were on the table three times a day. Even with all of these duties, Magdalene found time to enjoy her hobbies of knitting, crocheting, square dancing, jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. Magdalene enjoyed participating in community events – Homemakers’ Club, Talmage Christmas concerts, community showers and socializing with neighbours. Magdalene and Donald enjoyed travelling with friends and family. Favourite trips were to Nashville, Florida, Alaska and the Maritimes.
In 2006, Magdalene and Don sold the farm and moved into a house in Weyburn. She enjoyed the pace of retirement and appreciated the conveniences of “city living”.
In October, 2016, Magdalene and Don moved into Hill Top Manor. They were embraced by such a dedicated staff that the transition was an easy one. The family would like to thank the entire Hill Top family for their loving care.
