With sadness, the family of Lorna Daly Barton (nee: McGowan), announce her passing at Eden Homes, Weyburn, SK on August 19, 2022 at the age of 80 years.
She is survived by her son Brian (Lori) Barton and their sons, Howie Barton and Jake Barton, Vernon, BC; her son Rob (Lori) Barton, Vernon, BC. She is also survived by her brother Jim (Hilda) McGowan, Weyburn, SK; her sister Joan Schneider, Regina, SK; her niece Pam Mark (Brendan and Hannah), Grand Rapids, MN; as well as numerous cousins.
Lorna was born in the Weyburn Hospital to Norman and Mable McGowan on December 5, 1941. The McGowan family was living at Talmage at the time. Those winters were nasty – severe cold, mountains of snow and winds that blew forever! Lorna's Mom rode the train from Talmage to Weyburn two weeks before her expected birth - “just to be sure to get there.” Lorna's family moved from Talmage to the farm east of Weyburn in the spring of 1949.
Lorna loved school – and horses! She rode horseback to country schools, took Grade 9 by correspondence and completed her high school years attending Weyburn Collegiate Institute. Lorna's mind was brilliant – graduating from Grade 12 at the age of 16!
Lorna and her family moved to Vernon in 1970, wanting to experience the Okanagan Valley. But her prairie roots were strong, and in 1985 she moved to Regina and then back to Weyburn in 1994.
Throughout her life, Lorna experienced many health issues and challenges. Not one to complain, she just continued on – in her own way. Her home was at Eden homes for the past ten years and we extend special thanks to them for their loving care.
A Private Family Memorial Service will be held at RD Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK.
For family and friends so wishing, charitable donations in memory of Lorna may be made to the donor’s choice.
