Keith Johnstone Obituary

Keith Elden Johnstone, late of Weyburn, SK passed away January 6, 2024 at the age of 78 years.

He was predeceased by his parents, Malcom and Doris Johnstone; his son Chad Johnstone; and his wife Janice Johnstone.

Keith is survived by his children: Charla (Darren) Moore and family, Shayla and Kaylan; his son Devin Johnstone; brother Warren (Adeline) Johnstone; nieces and nephews: Lisa Johnstone (Craig Astle) and family, Caleb and McKinleigh, Kevin (Gail) Johnstone and family Kervens and Shanara, Mark Johnstone; cousins, Marlene Wallin, Darrell (Yvonne) Dunn; as well as numerous other cousins.

Keith was born in Regina, SK on September 9, 1945. He was raised and lived on a farm at Yellow Grass, SK.  Keith attended Waverley S.D. school as a pupil in his younger years and then attended Yellow Grass school.

Keith was also in Beef 4-H at Yellow Grass and attended meetings at Beautiful Plains School. He also developed a love for horses from his Grandpa Chester Collins.

Keith was a jack of all trades, here are a few of the occupations he had throughout his life, tack store and leather work, construction, carpentry, farming, livestock (cattle, horses, chickens) salesman, RM board, auctioneer and trucking.

He was very talented and took pride at all his occupations; he could build, fix, repair and create anything. Keith started his construction and carpentry learning while working for Bus Wilkinson.

Keith was a graduate in 1966 School of Agriculture from University of Saskatchewan with a Leadership Minor Award and he also received a bursary from Saskatchewan Wheat Pool.

He decided to go to the United States to attend an auctioneering school and worked at the Pool stock yards in Regina and Weyburn livestock auctioneering part time. Keith also worked at the Weyburn feed mill which was Interocean and than became the Co-op.  He was a salesman selling feed on the road.

Keith enjoyed many adventures like curling, roping, horses, hockey. Anything that had to do with visiting and having fun with people.

Keith was a big fan of hockey, he coached his sons and cheered them on and when his grandchildren started hockey and curling, he was at every event he could make it to and cheering them on and supporting them.  He was incredibly proud of his family and enjoyed being with them and would do anything for them or a fellow neighbor. You could catch Keith for a visit or debate down at the coffee shop or hockey rink watching the YG Senior Wheat Kings. In Keith‘s earlier years, he was active in the Kinsmen Club in Weyburn.

Keith’s gift was to make time to visit with people and their comments were… he was a kind, good man and made you feel welcome in his presence.

Cremation has taken place.  A service will be held at a later date in the spring.

For family and friends so wishing, charitable donations in memory of Keith may be made to the Weyburn Agriculture Society, 7B Prairie Avenue W, Weyburn, SK or the Yellow Grass Wheatland Communiplex, Box 270, Yellow Grass, SK, S0G 5J0.
