Kathy, the seventh of nine children born to John and Helen Makelki, was born on May 24, 1935. She married Harry Ashworth on December 22, 1951 and they had five sons. After raising their family, Kathy pursued a career as a care aide at St. Anthony’s and Extendicare homes in Moose Jaw and finally at the Lakeland Lodge care home in St. Walburg until retiring back to Weyburn. Kathy had a great work ethic and got very attached to those folks she provided care to.
She was an avid knitter, creating many afghans and other items over the years. She also had a green thumb which included indoor and outdoor gardening. She spent many hours each year in her kitchen producing jar after jar of canned goods straight from her garden. She was also an excellent cook and baker. A meal at her house was always looked forward to. She loved old-time country music and danced up a storm every time she had a chance.
A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from lower McKenna Hall, 317 ~ 3rd Street, Weyburn, SK.
