Juddson Ernest Bakken

Juddson Bakken, late of Weyburn and formerly of East Vancouver, left us on July 1, 2026. Judd was predeceased by his stillborn son, Wesley; nephew, Griffin Mounts; grandparents, Ernest & Irene Neufeld and Melvin & Muriel Bakken; aunt, Carrie Neufeld; cousin, Troy Bakken.

Judd will be lovingly remembered by his wife Tiffany and their daughter Sadie; parents Kevin & Denise Bakken; sister Brooke (Benson Thoudsanikone) brother Drew (Oriana Guerrero); father-in-law Don McLean (Betti); mother-in-law Anne McLean (Donald); sister-in-law Teagan Kazulin (Joey); aunts, uncles & cousins.

Judd was born on a blustery December 16, 1979 and died to fireworks on July 1, 2026.

As a youth Judd played a variety of sports. While he may have only played a few years of minor hockey, it developed into a lifelong love, and he played many years of Vancouver Senior Rec Hockey (Beer League). He was a diehard Rider fan and was also very passionate about the Montreal Canadiens.

He attended Haig Elementary School, Assiniboia Park School, Weyburn Junior High and graduated from Weyburn Comprehensive School. He took 1 year of Computer Science at University of Regina; then switched to Film & Video Production and convocated after 4 years. His credits in the Regina film industry included Moccasin Flats & Renegade Press. Next he moved to East Vancouver In 2006 to further pursue his career in the film industry. His credits there include Urban Suburban, Cupcake Girls, Love it or List It, Next Great Chef, The Shopping Bags, Village On A Diet, & the very popular Border Security. He began as an assistant editor and was eventually promoted to editor. Judd was proud to be nominated for the Leo Award in 2015 and 2019.

Judd enjoyed numerous adventures to Mexico with his buddy Regan, also to Belize & Cuba. He also attended many concerts and sporting events over the years. He loved the outdoors; hiking, fishing and getting away from city life. His favourite fishing spot was Otter Lake (northeast of La Ronge) which we travelled to a few times. Judd and Tiffany had many adventures together in Alaska, Montana and B.C., from helping with the Iditarod to entering a dog race together, along with hot springs, cabin vacations, watching northern lights and storms. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, dabbling in artwork, playing guitar and notably leather work which became a preferred and rewarding hobby. He also loved music of many genres.

Judd was a humble guy and did not wish for material possessions. Though, he did have a weakness for musical instruments, record albums and books of which he accumulated plenty.

Judd was a quiet, reserved, kind and polite guy but also had a great sense of humour. When he spoke it mattered. He could be trusted with a secret. He did not seek or wish for attention. He was a great listener and friend. His cat, Fidel Catstro, was very important to him.

Judd and Tiffany met while visiting a mutual friend that was hospitalized. Their first date was whale watching and the rest is history. Probably the happiest day of his life was the day their daughter, Sadie, was born. He was a hands on dad and loved playing toys, doing artwork and telling or reading stories to his little girl. He loved to spend time with her in the forest, going to the raging river and the beach at Cates Park. They enjoyed many visits to Maplewood Farm together. He was always a good provider and protector for his family.

Judd felt that his luck changed in 2024 when a tree branch fell in the forest, hitting him on the head and knocking him to the ground and requiring stitches. Soon after was the loss of their baby Wesley, and a year later a brutal cancer diagnosis.

Family was very important to Judd. He enjoyed friendly bantering with his sister Brooke, and with his brother Drew, he attended many concerts and had long discussions on film, music and literature. He was very close to his cousins, especially Brad and Amber, friendships that began in childhood and lasted forever. Friends played a significant role in Judds life which was very apparent when so many travelled great distances to visit him during his final year.

Judd will always be remembered as a special son, brother, husband, father and friend.
