Joyce Lorraine Oliver, late of Weyburn, SK passed away on October 16, 2024 at the age of 90 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wally Oliver; daughter Debbie Oliver; her parents, Geordie and Gladys Thackeray; sister Janette (Larry) Krivoshein; brother Jim Thackeray; father and mother-in-law, Percy and Ruth Oliver; and sister-in-law Orchid (Willis) Warner.
Joyce is survived by Debbie’s children: Brittney (Mark) [Ireland, Lochlan and Sawyer], Jayden (Lisanna); her son Brian (Jeannie) Oliver and children: Jenny (Duane) [Weston], Blaze (Morgan), Tyson (Ashley), Haley (Dustin); her daughter Tammy (Duane) Dionne and their children: Bailey (Dyl) [Axton (Piper), Zavery, Zerek, Zsofia, Crimson, Xaylem], Chandler (Talisha), Danica (Branden); daughter Wendy (Darryl) Postnikoff and their children: Alyssa (Kurt), Cayden (Rachael); brother Don (Elda) Thackeray; her sister-in-law Sandy (Dale) Cleveland; as well as nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.
Joyce was born on September 15, 1934 the eldest child of Geordie and Gladys Thackeray. She had three siblings; Janette, Jim, Don and grew up on the family farm just a few miles northwest of Goodwater. Joyce attended Lomond School near Goodwater and completed grades 11 and 12 at the Weyburn Collegiate.
Joyce met the love of her life, Wally Oliver, at the Colgate Skating Rink and they were married October 15, 1955. Wally built their family home southeast of Colgate near Jewel Creek. They were blessed with four children: Debbie, Brian, Tammy and Wendy. Eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren will continue their legacy.
Joyce was the ultimate wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her home was always full of love and laughter. Her focus was always on family and friends with the preparation of food, as that secret binding ingredient.
A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. from Grace United Church, Weyburn, SK with Rev. M. Barnabas officiating. Urn Bearer was Brian Oliver. Honorary Pallbearers were all Joyce’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Luncheon followed at Upper Grace Hall, 210 3rd Street, Weyburn, SK. Interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, SK.
