James “Buzz” Bent, late of Weyburn, SK passed away on January 20, 2026 at the age of 89 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Atwood and Mary Bent; daughter in infancy, Barbara Ann; his siblings: William, Doug, Robert, Richard, Ralph and Mary.
Buzz is survived by his wife of 69 years, Melba; son, Mark Bent and his children [Adam, Andrew]; daughter, Kim Bent and her son [Matt]; son, Whit Bent; his brother, Keith (Jo) Bent; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Buzz was a sportsman - hockey, baseball, curling and the main one, fastball. His team, the Weyburn Canadians won the 1972 Canadian Fastball Championship and were later inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame. He was awarded the Kinsmen Personality of the year in 1977. He was also a huge Toronto Blue Jays fan. Buzz was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Buzz worked at Laing’s Beverages, started the B&K Canteen and also ran the concession at the rink during many of those years. After several years of running both, he bought the Smoke Shoppe in the Weyburn mall and ran that for 22 years.
A Service of Remembrance was held on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK with Judy Beck officiating.
Interment was held at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn, SK. luncheon followed at the Wheatland Senior Centre, 888 ~ 1st Avenue, Weyburn, SK.
