Gordon Leonard Lansdell, late of Weyburn, SK passed away on May 6, 2024 at the age of 92 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Clara Lansdell; his brothers and sisters; and great-grandson Camryn Sutherland.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hilda Lansdell; children: Glenda Miller and family: Tammy (Danny), Kelly Mooney and family [Taya, Eric], Shea Mooney and her daughter [Jade];Mervin (Lorraine) Lansdell and family: Chad (Kendra) Sutherland and family [Tianna, Hayden], Ryan (Brandy) and family [Lillian, Ren], Raena Lansdell, Trey Lansdell (Ashley) and children [Klara, Lenka, Emily]; Russell (Melanie) Lansdell and family, Greg (Tina) and family [Gavin, Theodore]; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gordon Leonard Lansdell (“Yogi”) was born on May 3, 1932, on the family farm near Ibsen SK, and passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 6, 2024, at the Regina General Hospital.
Gordon received his education at the Beautiful Plains Country School. During his youth Gordon was an avid baseball player and hockey player. Gordon played goalie for the Yellow Grass Wheat Kings Hockey team. The Notre Dame Hounds at Wilcox SK had requested Gordon play goal for them, however due to life circumstances Gordon declined the offer. Gordon was always interested in the mechanics of things, at the age of 16, Gordon built his first car; from three wrecked cars. In the 1960’s Gordon began farming the family farm with his brother Bob and their father, Len .Gordon eventually took over farming the family farm. Gordon enjoyed their mixed farming operation of grain, cattle, and horses.
Mom and Dad always resided in the Yellow Grass and Weyburn areas, moving into their current home in 1973. Throughout his life Dad always maintained an interest in the trades, constructing the garage at their current home. During the 1960’s and 70’s Dad worked at Barber Motors Ltd. For Cecil and Ronald Barber. Dad obtained his G.M. Journeyman’s Mechanic Certification while employed at Barber’s. Dad retired in 1996, after working for 25 years at Jerry Mainil Ltd as a Pressure Welder.
Throughout the 1960s,70’s and 80’sDad was a volunteer member of the Weyburn Fire Department and the Weyburn E.M.O. Dad loved to fish and hunt, he shared these loves with his family and friends. In 2014, Dad received the Fred Garner Memorial Award for Outstanding Member of the Year from the Weyburn Wildlife Federation. Dad was an avid knife and axe maker, creating these items for his family and friends. Like his brothers before him, Dad taught himself to play guitar. Eventually he decided on the Bass Guitar. Dad played Country Music with several different local bands throughout the 1960’s,70’s and 80’s. During his retirement Dad enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his great grandchildren.
Dad was a kind generous spirit who gave his all for those he loved. His input and sense of humour will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Many thanks to Dr. Warren and the staff at the Weyburn General Hospital; and Dr. Dehghani and the staff at Regina General Hospital Cardiac Care Unit.
A Funeral Service for Gordon was held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK with Alan Whitrow officiating. Pallbearers were: Chad Sutherland, Kelly Mooney, Ryan Lansdell, Trey Lansdell, Greg Hugo and Danny Rittler.
Interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, SK. Luncheon followed at Cecilia’s Banquet Hall & Restaurant, 122 ~ 4th Street NE, Weyburn, SK
