Gordon Weston Grosenick, passed away on February 10, 2026 at the age of 92 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Laurence and Myrtle Grosenick; sister, Ione Waldal; brother, Eldon Grosenick; and his brothers-in-law, Dennis Wayne Thue and Elton Waldal
Gordon is survived by his sister, Joan Thue; sister-in-law, Yvonne Grosenick; numerous nieces and nephews, one of which he considered to be like a son to him, Brent (Delila) Thue and their children.
Gordon Weston Grosenick was born February 10, 1934. He attained Grade 9 at Pepper School and was the usual farm lad during his youth. He always enjoyed reading and listening to programs on the radio (such as “The Shadow”). Gordon would spend a lot of time tinkering in the blacksmith shop and he would send for plans to build things out of “Mechanic Illustrated” magazines. He completed several projects over the years.
Gordon liked to hunt deer, rabbits, ducks, etc. especially with his Uncle John Grosenick.
After leaving school he helped out on the farm and then worked for a seismic drilling company in southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba. When work was slack he’d return to help on the farm. When his Grandma Grosenick passed away he happened to be working in Alaska. The telegram didn’t reach him in time so he didn’t make it home. This was a sad time to be so far away.
Gordon worked out until his dad’s health began to fail and once again he returned to the farm.
After Laurence died in 1964 Gordon took over the family farm. He diversified to sheep along with the cattle, hogs, and the farming. He sold out of them when the coyotes got so bad – there was no profit left.
Sometimes during these years Eldon was home to help out with the work. Gordon always enjoyed his nieces and nephews; he taught them a lot about farming, animals, and running machinery. He enjoyed fishing with them especially his times spent fishing with his nephew Tyler.
Gordon always held a fascination for airplanes. In later years he rarely missed an air show at Moose Jaw, SK. He enjoyed hunting around the community as well as going north to hunt. He liked to collect and trade different guns – especially if they were antiques.
In the last few years that he farmed, Gordon kept only a few cattle and mostly just farm the land. Brent Thue (nephew) took over the Grosenick family farm in September of 1999. Gordon retired to Beaubier, SK.
Gordon spent much of his time with Brent and his family after retirement in Beaubier, SK, coming “home” to the farm for many meals and visits until he moved to receive more care in Weyburn and then New Hope Lodge in Stoughton, where he was very well cared for by the staff. He also appreciated visits and help in the later years by his niece Barb and her husband Dale Tait and his niece Denise and her husband, Oran Paul.
Cremation has taken place. No formal funeral service will be held.
For family and friends so wishing, charitable donations in memory of Gordon may be made to the New Hope Lodge, Box 38, Stoughton, SK, S0G 4T0.
