Garnet Robinson Obituary

Garnet Robinson, late of Weyburn, SK passed away on February 12, 2023 at the age of 88 years.

He was predeceased by his parents, Eldred and Ina Robinson.

Garnet is survived by his wife, Gerry; and their two sons, Curtis (Cheryl) and their family: Mitch and Jes, Taylor and Shirelle (Tye, Oliver and Ethan), Blake and Megan; Terry (Audrey) and their family: Evan, Erin and Darren (Wrenn and Parks), Nathan and Alisha (Brynn and Wyatt).

Garnet was born May 5, 1934 to Eldred and Ina Robinson. Later that year, the family moved to a farm in Northern Saskatchewan.

In 1941 they moved back to the Robinson Homestead eight miles south of Bromhead, Sask. Garnet was happy as he could now play with his cousins Phyllis, Marlys, Eddy, Jimmy and his close neighbor Larry. Garnet and Larry took turns driving their horses as mode of travel, depending on the season, to Green Mount school.

After high school in Bromhead, Garnet farmed with his father and drove school bus and Bombardier to Bromhead and Oungre schools.

In 1961, Garnet married Geraldine Stirling. They raised two sons, Curtis and Terry who now farm the land along with their spouses, Cheryl and Audrey.

Garnet always wanted to help. He drove a combine during the 2017 harvest season prior to heart surgery in November of that year. He loved walking in a ripe wheat field, running his hands through the heads and always said, “when the heads snap off the stems, it is ready to combine”.

He enjoyed driving around to watch Curtis and Terry work the land, and to see how the neighbors were doing. He helped move equipment and took lunches to the field. Another exciting time for him was when the oil drilling activity rolled into our community, another reason to drive around.

Garnet also enjoyed playing baseball, curling and family camping.

Garnet and Gerry shared their time between the farm and a condo in Weyburn, which they purchased in 2012. They spent most of their time, spring through fall, at the farm. In the winter months, they enjoyed visiting with new friends at the condo as well as old friends that are now living in Weyburn.

Garnet was born a farmer, a lifestyle that he and Gerry enjoyed together for 61 years.  His time has come to rest in peace in the land that he loved.

We will miss him.

In honour and respect of Garnet’s wished there will be no memorial service held.

Our family would like to thank everyone for the phone calls, messages, memorial donations, food, flowers and visits.

Our family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Amo Broni and the attending staff at Weyburn General Hospital for their care and compassion.
