G. Verne Cooke Obituary
G. Verne Cooke, late of Weyburn, SK passed away May 20, 2022 at the age of 86 years.
Verne Cooke was born April 29, 1936 to Gordon and Florence Cooke south of Goodwater, SK. Verne is predeceased by his wife Melva, his parents: Gordon and Florence Cooke, his brother Donald (Joan) Cooke, Melva’s parents Beatrice (Jack) Phillips, Ray (Margaret) Rolston; Melva’s sister Doreen (Lionel) Simpson; and his brother-in-law Ed Dinius.
Verne is survived by his children: Vernna (Warren) Wiggins, Cheryl Cooke (Robert Stanners) and Kevin (Bonnie Adacsi-Cooke) Cooke. His grandchildren: Randi (Adam) Maurer, Charli (Justin) Churko, Chantel Cooke and Cody (Sam Evans) Cooke. The special lights of his life, great grandchildren: Lane, Dalis, Payton and Quinn Maurer; Elise, Rhett and Maverick Churko; Haelo Cooke and Danton Oliver. His sister Maxine McKinnon, Melva’s siblings: George (Hilda) Rolston, Valerie Dinius, Jim (Judy) Phillips, Perry (Anne) Phillips as well as numerous nieces, nephews, a lot of really great friends and step children: John (Robin) Stanners, Lesley (John) Vukelich and Robbie (Leanne) Stanners.
A Visitation was held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK. A Funeral Service was held Friday, May 27, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. from Grace United Church, Weyburn, SK with Rev. M. Barnabas officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were: Murray Keefe, Rod & Carmella Stafford, Don & Claire Rose, Don Wilkinson, Max White, Gladys Marlatte, Janet Van Winkoop, Mark & Chris Thorne and all his music friends. Pallbearers were: Randi & Adam Maurer, Charli & Justin Churko, Chantel Cooke and Cody Cooke. Luncheon was held at Upper Grace Hall, Weyburn, SK with interment following at Goodwater Cemetery, Goodwater, SK.
In lieu of flowers, for family and friends so wishing, charitable donations in memory of Verne may be made to the Grace United Church Memorial Fund, 210 Third Street, Weyburn, SK, S4H 2K1.
