Ethel Olson Obituary

Ethel Agnes Olson, late of Weyburn, SK passed away March 1, 2022 at the age of 89 years.

Ethel was predeceased by her husband, David (1989), infant daughter, Elaine (1957),  infant son, Edward (1960); her parents Joseph and Agnes Illes; sister Julianna Hofseth; and her brother Arthur Illes. She was also predeceased by her sisters-in-law, Yolanda Illes, Gail Illes, Carol Illes, Selma Grainger (Harold) and Florence Kuffner (Frank); brothers-in-law: Ingmar Hofseth, Irvine Gruenke, Elwin Olson (Muriel) and Lloyd Petersen.

Ethel is survived by her siblings: Joseph Illes (Carmen), Anne Vosper (Lorne), Frank Illes (Ruby), John Illes, Mary Maiers (Alvin), Esther Gruenke and David Illes (Maureen); sister-in-law Elsie Petersen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ethel was born on the family farm southwest of Ceylon, SK on August 1, 1932 to Joseph and Agnes Illes.  She was one of 10 children, having 4 sisters, Julianna, Anne, Mary and Esther, and 5 brothers: Joseph, Frank, John, David and Arthur.

Ethel married David Olson on October 31, 1953.  They farmed near Minton, SK until moving to Weyburn in 1957.  Ethel and David had two children, Elaine and Edward.  Both died in infancy.  Ethel worked at the South Saskatchewan Hospital as an aide and activity worker.

Ethel was a well organized homemaker (the best), a great cook and a skilled seamstress.

In 1973 Ethel and David moved to Kelowna, BC.  David passed away on March 26, 1989.  Ethel moved to Medicine Hat, AB in 1996 and then back to Weyburn in 2004.  She took up residence at Crocus Villa (now Midtown Care Home) in 2014.

Ethel’s strong faith in Jehovah, the resurrection and God’s promise of a better world to come helped her to cope with the tragedies in her life.

John 5: 28, 29  “the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.”

A Memorial Service will be held on-line Zoom, Saturday, March 12, 2022 starting at 2:00 p.m. For log-in information please call 1- 306-861-0165.  Interment will be held at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, SK.

“And he (God) will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor outcry, nor pain be anymore.”  Revelation 21: 4
