Elsie Petersen Obituary

Elsie Clara Petersen (nee Olson) late of Ceylon, SK and Vancouver Island, BC passed away March 17, 2022 at the age of 89 years.

Elsie was predeceased by her loving husband Lloyd (2014), and daughter Velinda Shaver (1996). She is survived by daughters: Sandra Mrychka (Ron), Brenda Fellner (Wayne), Tammy Zanchetta (Andrew),12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, and nieces and nephews.

Elsie was born on the family homestead in the R.M. of Surprise Valley (Minton), SK on August 4, 1932, to Edwin and Clara Olson. She was the baby of the family, having two older brothers Elwin and David, and two older sisters Selma and Florence.

Elsie met and fell in love with Lloyd. They married on June 23, 1951. They started their life together on the Petersen homestead near Ceylon, SK. Here they raised their 4 beautiful daughters. Elsie worked hard on the farm with Lloyd: milking cows, driving trucks, working the fields, feeding the family, and keeping the house. They were amazing hosts, opening their home to all.

Elsie and Lloyd loved to travel eventually splitting their time between Holly Lake Ranch in East Texas, Whiskey Creek on Vancouver Island, and the family farm in Saskatchewan. They made many lifelong friends along the way.

One of the greatest joys in Elsie’s life was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always prioritized having fun and making memories such as: playing games, calling the coyotes, pillow fights, cookie runs to Plentywood, singing ‘Grandma’s little babies’, popcorn & hot chocolate, playing kick-the-can, giving foot massages, and countless others.

Lloyd and Elsie were happily married for 63 years.  After Lloyd passed in 2014, Elsie remained living on Vancouver Island enjoying precious time with her family and friends.  In 2019, Elsie returned home to Saskatchewan.

Elsie had a strong faith in Jehovah God. She was an avid reader, and her Bible was very well used. Her faith and hope in the promise of the resurrection kept her looking forward to the time when she would reunite with her daughter Velinda and her husband (‘Lil Buddy’) Lloyd.

Elsie will fondly be remembered by all those that knew and loved her.  Her legacy will live on through her family. She enjoyed a full life, of faith, love, and laughter. She will be missed.

A Memorial Service was held On-Line Zoom starting at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022.

A Private Family Interment will be held at Ceylon Cemetery, Ceylon, SK at a later date.

For family and friends so wishing, charitable donations in memory of Elsie may be made to the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, Box 4100, Georgetown, ON,  L7G 4Y4.
