Elsie Alma Backlun

Elsie Alma Backlun, late of Radville, SK, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2022 at the age of 93 years. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Lawrence Backlun (2016); her brother Willy Frey; sister Ella (Harold) Loyek; sister Bertha Frey; and son-in-law Robert Thue.

Elsie is survived by her daughter Ruth Thue, Radville, SK; son Orville (Pat) Backlun, Tisdale, SK; daughter Bernice Backlun, Radville, SK; daughter Linda (Kim) Ochitwa, Windthorst, SK; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren: Del (Charlene) Thue and children: Dane, (Jen Rohl), Cayla (John) Shelly; Lisa Thue and children Cash and Pistal Marks; James Backlun; Mindy Backlun (Ryan Goudy) and children Casey, Austin and Paisley; Tanya (Scott) Pohl and children Savannah Pohl (Dallin Chicoine) and Abby Pohl; Melissa Fradette and her daughter Kennedy Cherpin; Lorranda (Alan) Smelt and children Carter and Ayla; Tara (Sean) Bateson and children Ainsley and Aubrey.

Elsie was born on her grandfathers farm, northeast of Maple Creek, SK. Her family relocated to the Bromhead area where she attended Romford school. She worked as a mother’s helper and later worked in Weyburn and Fort San. Elsie married Lawrence Backlun in 1950 and began farm life in the Tribune area. In 1957, they moved to Lake Alma. Elsie was kept busy raising her family, growing huge gardens, canning, baking, raising chickens, hauling grain and picking rocks by hand! Elsie sewed clothes for herself and her children. There was always a knitting, crocheting, quilting or needle work project nearby. Socializing with neighbors and card games was a favorite time. Retirement had them move to Weyburn and then on to Radville. Road trips with family and visits to the farm were special times. The last 8 years, Elsie resided at the Golden Heritage in Radville. Here she made many dear friends and enjoyed playing cards, bingo, shuffle board, jigsaw puzzles and coffee time.             Elsie lived a long, full life.

The Funeral Service for Elsie was held on Monday April 18, 2022 at 2:00 pm from the Radville United Church with Judy Beck, Funeral Celebrant  officiating. Interment followed at Nordalen Cemetery, Lake Alma, SK.
