Donnie Knibbs Obituary

Donnie passed peacefully at the age of 83 after a long and courageous journey with Alzheimer’s and respiratory illness on June 28th.

Donnie was the loving husband of Loretta. Previously, he was married to Shirley before her passing in 1986. Donnie was a devoted father to Corinne, Devin, Richard and Carla; stepfather to Shawn and Troy; proud grandfather of Haley, Trinity, Paige, Matthew, Nathan, Avery, Brock, Joshua, Ava, Ashley, Makena, and Mya; son of Fern (Brown) and Art Knibbs; brother of Marilyn (Cugnet), Dale, and Wayne; stepbrother of Doris, Roy, and Steve.

Don was born in Weyburn and raised in the Stoughton area. At a young age Donnie established himself as a grain farmer - working closely with his brother Dale. He got his start with land close to Hume and later acquired sites in the vicinity of Huntoon. In addition to farming, Donnie proudly served as Mayor of Stoughton and held various other Board positions in Stoughton. He deeply cared for his community and donated his time and energy to help it grow and thrive. Throughout his life he was an avid socializer, tinkerer, and family man. His happiest moments were spent in simple joys: on a snowmobile trail, delivering a curling stone, or sitting by the fire outside the RV with friends and family close by. Later in life he and Loretta travelled the world together – making lasting memories in Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Hawaii, Cuba, and many places in between. What mattered most to Donnie was connection. He held tightly to the friendships of his past, and his heart was always open to new faces.

A Service of Remembrance was held on Friday, July 4, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. from the Grace United Church, Weyburn, SK with Reverend Trust officiating. A Private Family Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, SK. Honorary Pallbearers were All In Attendance. Lunch and fellowship followed at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #47 150 ~ 3rd Street, Weyburn, SK

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Tatagwa View ~ House #4, 808 Souris Valley Rd Weyburn, SK, S4H 2Z9, in gratitude for the care and comfort Donnie received in his final years.
