Donna Lou O'Brien

Donna Lou O’Brien, late of Midale, SK passed away August 1, 2024 at the age of 92 years.

She was predeceased by her husband Ken O’Brien; father and mother Rolf and Mabel Hjorth; her brother Donald Hjorth; and her brother-in-law Bill Dickson.

Donna is survived by her children: Patricia Dixon and her family, Robert Dixon (Tracy Kerins) and their daughter [Makena], Kristy Dixon (Dave Wise) and their children [Carwyn, Addison], Rick (Loralee) O’Brien and their children Logan O’Brien, Lane (Kylie) O’Brien and their family [Leah, Liam, Adeline]; David O’Brien. Donna is also survived by her sister Janice Dickson and her children Kevin (Bev) and family Nola (Steve) and family.

Donna will be remembered for her kindness and patience. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister.  She started her teaching career at the age of 17, with a break to start a family with Ken O'Brien.

In 1962, Donna lost Ken and was left to raise 3 young children. She moved back to Midale, to live with Grandma Mabel and Pa, and got her teaching certificate. She continued to live and teach many years in Midale.  Students in her Home Ec class will remember her fashion shows.  Many of her students continued to visit through the years and when she moved into Mainprize Manor, some even helped to care for her.  Her love of books has been passed to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At Donna’s request, there will be no funeral service.  Interment will be held at Westphalia Cemetery, Midale, SK at a later date.
