Dennis McRae Obituary

Dennis Charles McRae, late of Weyburn, SK passed away August 29, 2022 at the age of 83 years.

He was predeceased by his father and mother Charles and Olive McRae, his father and mother-in -law, Archie and Gwen Frape, brothers in law, Ralph Lavender and Norm Baily.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife Blanche McRae, Weyburn, SK, his son Brad McRae (Nicole) and children Ryan and Isla, Vancouver, BC, his daughter Susan Urquhart (Andrew) and children Zach, Cassidy Flegel (Brendan) and children Bentley, and Harper, Regina, SK, his son Curtis McRae (Kristen) and daughter Olivia, Regina, SK, his sister Ilyne Lavender, his brothers and sisters–in-law, Jean Baily, Bob Frape (Colleen), Ron Frape (Joyce) as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Dennis attended Hawarden School and the Uof S obtaining his Bachelor of Education. He first taught in Moosomin, later at Weyburn Jr. High and Weyburn Comprehensive, mainly in Phys Ed but later in Special Ed when a Pre Employment program was developed there. Upon retirement he joined Social Services in the Justice Department doing mediation for youth and adults. Later he was Executive Director of WASES  (Weyburn & Area Supportive Employment Services).

Dennis loved playing sports, hockey & baseball in his youth, later golf, tennis, curling and badminton. He coached many school teams as well as Special Olympics. Later watching Blue Jays, Riders and many other sports on TV.  He participated in Rotary and enjoyed singing groups. He will be remembered for his smile, quick wit. His greatest pride was encouraging youth to reach their potential.

Dennis & Blanche were married in 1966 celebrating 56 years and raising three children, Brad (Nicole), Susan (Andrew) and Curtis (Kristen). Being involved in their sports and lives and enjoying his grandchildren: Zach, Cassidy (Brendan), Ryan, Isla and Olivia were a highlight. Two great-grandchildren Harper and Bentley were also special to him.

A Service of Remembrance for Dennis Charles McRae was held on Monday, September 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. from Grace United Church, Weyburn, SK with Rev. M. Barnabas, officiating. Lunch followed at Upper Grace Hall, Weyburn, SK. Interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, SK. Urn Bearer was Brad McRae. Honorary Pallbearers were: Ray and Jeanette Hamm, Boyd and Marg Stewart, Leon and Linda Driscoll, Stan and Paula Runne and Doug and Cathie Loden.
