Dahlton Albert Lewis was born October 18, 1936, on the family farm NW of Colgate, Saskatchewan.  He grew up on the farm near Colgate and attended school there.

As a young boy, he and his brothers Delmar & Darcy who were close in age, spent a lot of time together getting into shenanigans. They played lots of sports together along with their many cousins. Dahlton also took pride in looking after his younger sister Judy and brother Dick. As a young man, he took pleasure in taking on many jobs, helping when and wherever needed.

Dahlton met Ella (Maier) when she came to Colgate to teach.  They were married on April 3, 1961 and started their life in Colgate.  In 1968, they bought their farm south of Colgate which they developed over the years. They had three children: Wade, Twyla, and Carla as well as 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Dahlton farmed throughout his lifetime and drove school bus for over 25 years. He was an avid trapper for many years and enjoyed passing on his skills to his son and whomever else that showed interest. He liked to hunt and fish on occasion and enjoyed the outdoors.  Dahlton was a keen gardener. He took pride in his greenhouse and enjoyed experimenting with different plants.

Dahlton was very social and enjoyed many activities. Curling was a highlight for him. He was instrumental in setting up bonspiels at Colgate Curling Rink. He loved playing baseball and was a dedicated Blue Jays fan. Over the years he enjoyed golfing and playing hockey.  In his senior years he enjoyed playing on the Senior Men’s Lomond Loafers Hockey Team.  For many years, Dahlton was an active member of the Weyburn Freemasons – Latomia-Weyburn Lodge.  He was a community man and was always willing to volunteer in whatever capacity he could. Together with Ella, they led an active role in their church community, he enjoyed bowling, old-time and square-dancing, listening to old-time country music, travelling, socializing, playing cards, and having coffee with friends.  Dahlton loved to play Cribbage and Crokinole and taught all the grand-children how to play.  He also loved chocolate milkshakes (never a small size) and ice cream!  Making home-made ice cream was an annual Christmas family tradition.

In 2001, Dahlton and Ella retired from farming and moved into Weyburn. Dahlton lived at Hilltop Manor in the last few years and enjoyed many activities while there.

Dahlton will be remembered as a quiet and gentle man and was highly respected not only by his family and friends, but by all who knew him.
