With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Carman James McLeod at the age of 80, at home—just as he wanted. Born January 22, 1945, in Midale, Saskatchewan, Carman spent much of his life in the Weyburn area, where he was known for his quick wit, warm sense of humor, and kind-hearted spirit.
After marrying Linda (Kelley) in 1972, Carman and Linda shared a short chapter living and working in Calgary before returning to Saskatchewan in 1979. They made Weyburn their home, raising their two children, Darin and Shelley, with love and laughter. Carman went on to work for many years at Ke-Ed Equipment, where he built a reputation as a hardworking and dependable presence, retiring in 2008.
Even in retirement, Carman remained active—keeping his yard immaculate and green, enjoying his coffee and “BS” visits with friends, and staying busy with his favorite hobbies. He had a lifelong passion for farming, a fascination with his fish aquariums, and an impressive model train setup that delighted him and anyone lucky enough to see it. He never passed up a good hamburger, and his sharp sense of humor meant he was always ready with a joke or some playful teasing.
Calm and easygoing, Carman had a natural ability to make those around him feel at ease—a quality especially felt by his three grandchildren through Darin: Brandon (20), Keaton (19), and Morgan (16). He spoiled them in his own quiet, thoughtful way, always eager to hear their stories and proud to watch them grow.
After Linda’s passing on November 23, 2020, following her battle with cancer, Carman faced his own health challenges—including a fight with bladder cancer. As other issues arose, he found comfort in the simple things: watching every episode of Mayday, tracking the weather, and following politics closely. If you wanted to know what was going on in the world, a quick call to Carman was all it took.
Carman passed quickly and peacefully at home—exactly where he wanted to be—and, in a way that could only be described as fitting, with a hamburger waiting for supper on the kitchen counter.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who kept in touch with Carman and checked in on him—he thoroughly enjoyed every visit and conversation with you. Your time, care, and connection meant more to him than words can express.
His warmth, humor, and down-to-earth presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
