It is with great sadness the daughters of Beverley Dennis Currie announce his peaceful passing on October 2, 2025 one week shy of his 94th birthday.
Bev was predeceased by his parents Dougald Currie & Mary (Lewis) Currie, daughter Dawn, brother Allan, sister-in-law Pat (wife of Allan), sister-in-law Bonnie (wife of Norris), sister-in-law Jeanette (wife of Dave) and his niece Nancy.
Bev is survived by his daughters, Daenna (Marlon) and Jackie (Tim) and grandchildren Quinn, Kate, Reese and Jane as well as his siblings Norris (Dot), Floyd (Doreen), Dave and Kathryn (John) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bev grew up in Verlo, Saskatchewan with his parents, four bothers and one sister. He attended school in both Verlo and Gull Lake. He farmed with two of his brothers near Cantaur, Saskatchewan until retirement in 1998.
Bev was an avid baseball player. He played for many teams both in Verlo and Gull Lake. In 1949 Bev played outfield for the Gull Lake Junior Baseball Club. That team went on to win the Provincial Division that year. In 2005, he and the team were inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame in recognition of that win.
Bev had a life-long passion for politics; he was a fierce defender of human rights and always an advocate for the underdog. He lived his values and devoted many hours to these causes. He was president of the provincial NDP in the 1970s and ran in provincial NDP ridings. In 2006, he ran in a federal riding for the Green Party of Canada.
Bev was a writer and teller of stories and poems and would happily share a limerick. In 2006 he wrote a book of short stories called Sleepy’s Revenge. He was an active member of his community even playing the lead role in the musical HMS Pinafore.
Bev was a devoted single parent to three girls and a loving papa to 4 grandchildren. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, kind and gentle nature and commitment to social justice. Bev’s world view can be summed up by the creed he wrote for our family:
My Family Creed
We consider ourselves to be humanists.
That is, we believe we shall be judged
by how we associate with other
creatures on this planet.
Our reward is to be judged favourably
by those who have known us.
We hope, by example, to impart
this subtle message to our children.
