Bernice “Barney” Ruckaber, late of Weyburn, SK passed away March 12, 2022 at the age of 90 years.
She was predeceased by her parents, Steve and Florence Chuckry; her husband Philip Ruckaber; brothers, Roy Chuckry and Philip Chuckry; granddaughter Joni Venaas.
Bernice is survived by her daughter, Gail (Meryle) Venaas; sons, Wayne (Fern) Ruckaber; Raymond (Cindy) Ruckaber; her grandchildren: Lynda (Dave) Ericson, Chris (Karen) Venaas, Brian (Krissy) Venaas, Missy (Alex) Dorval, Austin (Maria) Venaas, Lyle (Crystal) Ruckaber, Lori (Scott) Birnie, Brent (Desiree) Ruckaber, Raelene Ruckaber (Jon); 16 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brother-in-law Clem; sisters-in-law Ann, Helen, Eleanor, Pauline and Mary; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bernice was born to Steve and Florence Chuckry on June 7, 1931. She attended school at Hume, SK, completing grade 11. She helped on the farm and worked in Weyburn for a few years. She met Philip (the love of her life) at a community dance and they were married in 1952. Together they had 3 children, Gail, Wayne and Raymond. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before Philip passed in 2020. Bernice worked hard and always said her family was the most "precious gift of life."
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, March 17, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, SK with celebrant Fr. Francis Plaparampil. Honorary Pallbearers were all in attendance. Pallbearers were: Austin Venaas, Brian Venaas, Chris Venaas, Brent Ruckaber, Lyle Ruckaber and Scott Birnie. A Private Family interment followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, SK.
