Verla Evalan Ann Dickiso (nee: Smith), was the third child born to Edwin and Alice Smith at Alida, SK.  She attended Edenvaille School and then moved to Redvers and went to Yale School where she helped her mother work with the youngest kids, was the caretaker at the Yale School and helped the neighbors with housekeeping.  They moved to Manor where Verla helped in the restaurant and made beds in the hotel.

In 1954, Verla married Leonard Dickison at the United Church in Manor, SK.  Farm work was now shared as they raised cattle, pigs, ducks, chickens and turkeys.  They also raised four children: Gordon, Beth, Jean and Gerald.  In 1983 they sold the farm and moved to Weyburn, SK to retire, buying a duplex in the Moffat Lawn. Verla liked to cut the grass, tend to the big gardens, flowers, plants and trees around the Moffat duplex.  It was a big lawn, and she kept it clean.  Verla liked to cook, clean house, cars and cared a lot about house plants.  She liked clocks, dishes, raised fish and went to the Zion Lutheran Church and cleaned pews, as well as taught Sunday School classes for many years.

Verla and her son Gerald liked to travel.  Together they visited many places in the United States such as Disney Land, Elvis Presley's Place, Hank William's grave in Alabama, watched a Alan Jackson country concert in Dallas, Texas.  They also travelled to British Columbia, out East and north in White Court.

Mom liked to feed the squirrels and birds.  She really liked her neighbors and living in Weyburn, SK where there was so much to do, talking with people, and going for walks.

When Pastor Kelly Henning became the pastor at the Lutheran Church is Lake Alma, Verla and her daughter Jean travelled to Lake Alma for worship on Sundays.  Verla was so happy with Pastor Henning whom she had know for many years, as well as her church friends.  Verla got to know many nice people.
