Signa Gladys Lamoureux

Signa Gladys Lamoureux, late of Radville, SK, formerly of Minton, SK, passed away February 5, 2018 at the age of 84 years.

Signa was predeceased by her parents Peter and Anna Peterson; siblings: Alfred (Annie) Peterson, Margaret (Floyd) Mooney, Mabel (Dan) Lupanko, Otilda Peterson, Arthur (Caroline) Peterson, Albert Peterson, Ruby (Jack) Kozack, Rueben Peterson; in-laws: Floyd and Frances Lamoureux, sisters and brothers-in-law: Donna (Dryden) Robinson, Doris (Harry) Kuntz, Lawrence Lamoureux, Jean Lamoureux.

Signa is survived by her husband Jim Lamoureux, Radville, SK; her children: Sharlene Solie (Steve Collins), Whitby, ON and family: Ashley Solie, Taylor Solie; Tammy (Tony) Kueffler, Williston, ND and family: Richelle (Kile) Martin [son Logan], Jenna (Brent) Mangel and children [Collin and Owen], Melanie (Wade) Richards, Yorkton, SK and family Hailey Richards, Shelby Richards; sisters-in-law: Margaret Leavens, Weyburn, SK, Norma Tanton, Regina, SK; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Signa Gladys (Peterson) Lamoureux, was born August 14, 1933 in Ogema, SK to Anna (Larson) and Peter Peterson.  She was the youngest of nine children.  She attended Lyons and Green Lake schools where she walked or rode horse to school each day.  One of her favorite days at school was “Field Day” where she enjoyed participating in all of the events.  Her love of sports continued into her adulthood where she played on a ladies fast pitch softball team and was a passionate fan of the Toronto Blue Jays.  When her kids were involved in sports she could always be counted on to attend and to cheer them on.

On April 26, 1957 she married Jim Lamoureux in Ogema.  After they were married they moved to various locations in Saskatchewan while Jim worked road construction.  In 1963, they put down roots in Minton where they raised their three daughters.  A few years later they started farming and in 1986, they started trucking.  Over the next 25 years they put a lot of miles on. They continued living in Minton until Signa’s failing health made it necessary for her to move into the Radville Marion Home where she lived until her death. 

They enjoyed trips to Mexico, the West Coast, and other places.  A favorite was a trip to the southern United States that included a stop in Nashville, Tennessee, home of the “Grand Ole Opry” because she was a fan of country music.  They also enjoyed attending rodeos whenever they got the chance. 

Everyone remembers Signa for her cooking and baking.  At every holiday she made sure everyone had their favorite pie - even if that meant six different kinds.  Every day us kids were welcomed home from school with fresh baked buns and cinnamon rolls.  She was known for making her grandkids anything and everything they wanted.  When they were around it was not uncommon to have slushburgers at 3 pm when they got home from the pool or pizza at 10 pm, just because.  Her kitchen never closed and she loved every minute of it.  We’ve all agreed we may try, but we’ll never cook as well as she did.  As her health declined, Jim turned into her baking assistant and fried more donuts than a bakery.  Signa also enjoyed her flowers and vegetable garden.  She spent many hours canning and we all enjoyed the fruits of her labour.  The grandkids loved going to Grandma and Grandpa’s because there were no rules and Grandma was the boss.  Later on, she also loved visits from her three great grandsons, also known affectionately by Great Grandpa as the three little cowboys.  She enjoyed watching them run around and health permitting would’ve been right beside them.  Additionally, she loved to shop and had more coats than was necessary for even a Saskatchewan winter.

A mother is the essence of love and a constant source of understanding.  Her gentle touch, reassuring smile, and endless devotion are a source of strength through the years and across the miles.  A mother is wisdom, guidance, and beauty whose life experiences guide her children on the path to happiness.

A Funeral Service for Signa was held Friday, February 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from Minton Community Hall, Minton, SK with Rev. SunDo Hyun officiating.  Interment was held at  Chapel Grove Cemetery, Minton, SK.  Luncheon followed the interment at the Minton Community Hall, Minton, SK.
