Howard "Ole" Emmanuel Carlberg

Howard (Ole) Emmanuel Carlberg, late of Regina, SK and formerly of Fillmore, SK passed away December 1, 2019 at the age of 88 years.

He was predeceased by his parents, Albin and Lillian Carlberg; brother Albin Jr. Carlberg; sisters, Elaine Hofmeister, Shirley Mae Luchenski; and son-in-law Gary Irwin.

Howard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Shirley; 5 daughters:  Heather and her children: Cory (April), Kendal (Nathan), Courtney (Jesse); Theresa (TJ) (partner - Brian Olson) and her children, Lara (David) and Clayton (Candice); Dianna and her children: Brett (Carla), Kim (Jason), Tyson (Carrie); Cathy (Ghislain) and children, Jesse (Marcy) and Rebecca; Melanie (Trevor), Cordelle (Ashley), and Kayla (Cody) as well as 12 great grandchildren.

Ole attended the Myers Country School and then onto the Fillmore High School. Upon graduation from Fillmore, he attended the School of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, SK where he graduated with a degree in agriculture.  Ole farmed with his father for several years before purchasing the family homestead, where Ole and Shirley lived for the next fifty years and raised their family. 

Ole was an active member of the Fillmore community.  He was involved with the 4-H clubs, sang in the United Church choir, was an active member of the National Farmers Union, the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star.  Ole enjoyed square dancing with Shirley, the Agribition and the Candiac horse sale.  When asked, Ole would lead a small community parade on horseback, proudly carrying the Saskatchewan flag. Ole loved to give rides in the buggy he restored with his son-in-law, Gary.

Family was very special and important to Ole.  He loved spending time with his girls and their families.  Ole taught his daughters to 2-step and old time waltz while listening to the Saturday night dance party on CKRM.

A Service of Remembrance was held Friday, December 6, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from Fillmore Grace United Church, Fillmore, SK with Allan Gairns in leadership.  Interment was held at the Fillmore Cemetery, Fillmore, SK with luncheon following at the Fillmore Memorial Hall, Fillmore, SK.
