Welcome to the memorial page for

James "Jim" Vaksdal

May 27, 2017

James (Jim) Norman Vaksdal, late of White Rock, BC (formerly of Lake Alma, SK), died peacefully on May 27, 2017 at the age of 85 years.

Jim was predeceased by his parents: Helmar and Hansine Vaksdal, first wife Norma; sister Sylvia.

Jim is survived by his wife Evelyn; daughter Myrna, son Lonnie (Cathy), granddaughters: Mindy, Ashley, Angela, Chloe; six great grandchildren; stepsons: Bruce (Peggy), Brian (Lynn), Rob; step grandchildren: Shawn, Christina, Jenna and Jessica.

James (Jim) Norman Vaksdal was born on the farm on Section 2-3-17-W2 three miles north of Lake Alma, Saskatchewan, to Helmar and Hansine Vaksdal.  Jim and his sister Sylvia lived in Lake Alma with their parents and Jim spent his days working on the farm with his father.  On December 5, 1951 he married Norma Petersen and they settled on a farm north of Lake Alma and had two children Myrna and Lonnie.  Jim farmed, curled, played cards, and cared for Norma who had rheumatoid arthritis.  In 1970, for health reasons he moved his family to White Rock, British Columbia and started the next phase of his life.  He gained employment with Peace Arch Toyota where he spent over 26 years working in service and parts.  In 1980, Mindy, the first of three grandchildren arrived, followed by Ashley and Angela.  Jim and Norma loved the grandchildren and held many family gatherings so the family could spend time together.

In June 1992 Norma passed away at the age of 61 and Jim was on his own.  In 1996 Jim met Evelyn and a new chapter of his life began.  This chapter included bowling, lawn bowling, square dancing, travel and extending the family to include Evelyn’s sons Bruce, Brian, and Rob and their children Shawn, Christina, Jenna, and Jessica.  In 2001 his sister Sylvia passed away which was devastating for him.  A few years later Chloe came into his life and then the great grandchildren started arriving now totaling six with Michaela, Matthew and Madeline and Marley, Ryland, and Brinley.  These children brought a lot of joy to Jim in his final years.

Jim will be remembered for his animated storytelling, his sense of humour, his love of family, and dedicating his life to taking care of his family and extended family.  Family was always his number one priority and he will be greatly missed.

A Visitation was held on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 7:00pm -9:00pm from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK.  A Memorial Service for Jim was held on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at 1:00pm from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK with Pastor Cicely McDougall officiating.  Interment followed at Nordalen Cemetery, Radville, SK.
