Welcome to the memorial page for

Geraldine Squires

August 30, 2016

Geraldine M. Squires, late of Weyburn, SK passed away August 30, 2016, at the age of 89 years.

Gerry was predeceased by her mother Leona Osler; stepmother Catherine Collins; father Aubin J. Gaudet; father-in-law Howard Squires; mother-in-law Eva Squires; husband Stan Squires; sisters and brothers-in-law: Clint and Jean Squires, Grace and Harold Meek, Clayton Squires, Jean and Jim Pedersen, Wayne and Irene Squires.

Gerry is survived by her son Jack (Lorena) Squires, granddaughter Nicole Squires (Nathan Cole), grandson Ryland Squires; daughter Sheila Squires (George Bourassa); sisters: Therese Smith, Leona (Fred) Ransom; brother Hugh (Pat) Gaudet; well loved nieces and nephews; and very special friend Lois Allen.

Gerry was born April 11, 1927 to Leona Irene Osler and Aubin J. Gaudet in Regina SK. She spent her first early years in Tignish, PEI and returning to Saskatchewan grew up in Lebret with her sisters and brother. After completing high school she furthered her education in Saskatoon and Regina. She met Stan Squires at a ball game in Wilcox and they were married in 1948. They both worked in retail until an opportunity came up to take over the store in Corinne and so began the many adventures of Crossroads Service. The store served as a hub for the community and a stopping place for travellers from near and far. To this enterprise they added Jack in 1956 and Sheila in 1965. After the store was closed Gerry was able to pursue her many interests such as painting, sewing and any other craft that took her fancy. She loved to travel and enjoyed many trips abroad but was always game for a drive in the country and especially a visit to her beloved valley. Gerry delighted in nature, loved to watch the birds and was Mom to many family pets. She loved music and was a gifted pianist who generously shared her talents. She was a member and Past Matron of the Milestone chapter #60 of the Order of Eastern Star and was a long serving Organist. Gerry later moved to Regina where she was able to partake in many activities such as the Symphony and Globe Theatre. When grandchildren Nicole and Ryland came along she decided to move to Weyburn to be an active part of their lives; they were a source of great pride to her. Throughout her life Gerry had the good fortune of a devoted friend in Lois Allen and was a special aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was a thoughtful, kind and loving person who lived her life to the fullest. She will always remind us to stop and look at the clouds or the trees or the stars.

Cremation has taken place.  As Gerry's request, there will be no funeral service.

For family and friends so wishing donations in memory of Geraldine may be made to the Weyburn Humane Society, Box 1062, Weyburn, SK, S4H 2L3 or the Weyburn Special Care Home, 704 5th Street, Weyburn, SK, S4H 1A3.
