Alice Walter Obituary

 Alice Carson Walter, late of Weyburn, SK, passed away March 22, 2018 at the age of 94 years. 

Alice was predeceased by her parents; husband Ernest; infant daughter Donna; sisters and brothers-in-law: Beryl and Alex Shields, Rea and Oliver Pederson, Peggy and Bob Williamson, Virgil Bernard, Don McGillivray and Jack Walter.

Alice is survived by her children: Beth (Don) Graas and family: Erin (Darryl), Alexis (Brad) Zerr, Dallas, Cody and Blair Graas; Susan (Gene) Minard and family: Chris Minard, Lea (David) Hemphill, Sydney, Nash and Shea; sisters: Edith Bernard, Arvilla Carleton and Edna McGillivray; special friends: Mary Goranson and Gloria Miller; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

Alice was born October 2, 1923 on Cloverdell farm close to Trossachs, SK.  She was the 4th of 6 girls born to John Hunter and Emma Maude Spence.  Mom worked hard her entire life, starting with chores on the dairy farm, then to Ontario for the war effort, Picardy Candy in Regina, and picking fruit in the Okanagan.

She came to Weyburn to work for the Singer Sewing Company.  Mom and Dad were married in 1950 and resided on the Walter farm for most of their 60 years. Mom was an avid gardener, an active member of the Weyburn Horticultural society, she won many awards and later acted as a judge for the various competitions.

She was a 4-H leader for many years, sharing her sewing and culinary skills.  She along with her partner, Elva Hemphill, had the concession at the livestock exchange for many years.  Mom and dad loved to square dance with the South Weyburn Twirlers. Mom was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Community Church.  She was a Sunday School superintendent, sang in the choir, and served on the church board and other various committees.

A Service of Remembrance was held Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from Calvary Baptist Community Church, Weyburn, SK with Pastor Tim MacKinnon officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were Alice's grandchildren: Erin Graas, Chris Minard, Lea Hemphill, Alexis Zerr and Blair Graas.  A Private Family interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, SK.  Luncheon followed the service at Calvary Baptist Community Church, Weyburn, SK.

Thank you to all who visited, sent cards, and telephoned while mom was hospitalized and at Hilltop Manor.  Special thanks to her care givers Sherri and Mary Ann and staff at Hilltop Manor.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in memory of Alice may be made to the Calvary Baptist Community Church, 1619 1st Avenue NE, Weyburn, SK, S4H 3E7.
